| Science affects our daily lives and shapes our perception of the world. The engine of change is the desire to question everything around us. What revolutionary discoveries have we made concerning ourselves, our health, our planet and our universe within the past one hundred years? The exhibition consists of Science Lounge and four themes displayed as flagship stores: System Earth, Life and Mind, Beyond the Visible and Better Health. System Earth The Earth is constantly changing. Almost everything is interconnected on our planet: volcanoes, earthquakes, the climate, ocean currents, landscapes, erosion, animal and plant life. We humans also have an effect on the phenomena on Earth. Life and Mind Science has significantly increased our understanding of what and who we are and where we come from. We all have a unique set of genes that greatly influences our development and lives. Our brains have a lifelong ability to change. It is the interplay between our genes, the environment and our own actions that shapes us into what we are. Beyond the Visible A century ago, physics was considered a completed field of science. In a few decades, however, everything changed: it turned out that the laws of physics could not be applied to everything. Now we have a totally new way of looking at both the infinitely large and the infinitely small. Better Health The life expectancy of people born in the Western world has doubled within a century. Vaccination, antibiotics, hygiene, contraception, and health and medical care have reduced child mortality and guaranteed an increasing life span for a growing number of people. | |

 | From April 7th SEA LIFE welcomes 2 new residents. The two female otters will move into their new private home which is bigger than the average student housing and even includes a waterfall. These Asian short clawed otters come originally from India across the South Chinese border. They are family of the marten and the weasel. They use their tail and back paws to swim and they use their front paws to eat (like a chipmunk). To keep the right body temperature, the otters eat a lot of food, daily about 15 percent of their total body weight. Their diet consists of snails, insects and fruit. Meet the new members of the SEA LIFE family in Scheveningen and learn more about them in this exciting exhibition and how you can help to protect them. | |
