How do you prevent theft?
Thefts from cars and pickpocketing happen all the time. You can do something about this yourself! This summer you will see special teams from the local authority, the police, schools, residents groups and other organisations in the community on the streets or knocking on your door. They are there to provide information about how to prevent theft and will be giving you handy gadgets for this. In Scheveningen for instance this summer campaigns are being mounted against pickpocketing and thefts from cars.
A few tips:
Don’t help pickpockets:
- Always carry your purse close to your body, for example in your inside pocket or use a wallet that you can hang round your neck.
- Protect your pin code when using an ATM/credit card machine and watch out for your purse.
Prevent theft from cars:
- Always lock your car. Even if you are away for a few minutes.
- Never leave valuables in your car.
- Let the thief see that you’ve got nothing of value. For instance leave your dashboard door open.
- Always take your navigation system and radio with you.
Report
Always report a theft. You can go to the police station but you can also report it on line via internet: www.politie.nl
